This Lebanese rice recipe is the perfect side dish to any meal. It is simple and only needs 4 ingredients aside from water! I often pair this with a salad and some type, and a main dish.
It has a delicious buttery flavor, without the use of any butter. It’s hard to explain until you try it yourself. I haven’t made traditional rice in so long. I may have forgot how to! No complains here.
What is Lebanese Rice?
Lebanese rice is like the rockstar of rice dishes – flavorful, aromatic, and oh-so-versatile. So, what’s the deal with it? Well, picture this: vermicelli noodles that are sautéed in a bit of olive oil, getting all toasty and nutty before adding in some jasmine rice. That, my friend, is the magic of Lebanese rice.
What Ingredients Do You Need?
Vermicelli Noodles: Now, let’s delve into the specifics. Vermicelli noodles, with their slender profile, contribute a delightful texture to Lebanese rice. Toasted in olive oil beforehand, they offer not only a subtle nuttiness but also a golden hue. Beyond their taste, these noodles bring essential carbohydrates to the table, ensuring the dish is both satisfying and nourishing.
Olive Oil: Turning our attention to the next key player – olive oil. It’s not just any oil; it’s a cornerstone of Lebanese cuisine. This liquid gold imparts a rich and fruity flavor to the rice. Besides its culinary allure, olive oil boasts a plethora of health benefits. Abundant in monounsaturated fats and antioxidants, it not only enhances heart health but also brings anti-inflammatory properties to the table, adding a wholesome and nutritional dimension to the dish.
Jasmine Rice: Transitioning to the foundation of Lebanese rice – jasmine rice. Fragrant and aromatic, jasmine rice infuses each bite with a subtle floral note. Beyond mere taste enhancement, this rice variety distinguishes itself with a low glycemic index. This characteristic facilitates a gradual release of energy, making jasmine rice an excellent choice for sustaining energy levels. Seamlessly complementing a balanced diet, it’s a perfect fit for those seeking both flavor and nutritional benefits.
Sea Salt: Beyond the ordinary, sea salt adds a dash of natural essence to every dish. With its distinct taste and texture, sea salt effortlessly elevates your culinary creations. Unlike its table salt counterpart, sea salt boasts a diverse mineral profile, enhancing not only the taste but also the nutritional value of your meals. The journey from ocean to table ensures that sea salt retains essential minerals, creating a symphony of flavors that dance on your taste buds.
How Do You Make Lebanese Rice?
Now, let’s delve into the process. Begin by placing vermicelli noodles into a pan with a drizzle of olive oil. Give them a gentle sauté, just enough for a darker golden brown hue. This initial step is akin to setting the stage, a prelude to the flavor symphony about to unfold.
Following the sauté, water joins the scene, accompanied by fragrant jasmine rice. Together, they dive into the simmering pool, creating a mixture that evolves as the rice absorbs those fantastic flavors and becomes tender. Picture the aroma permeating your kitchen – a tantalizing preview of the deliciousness ahead.
Here’s where the excitement heightens. Lebanese rice becomes your culinary canvas. Whether you fancy a pinch of salt or wish to experiment with spices, go ahead – it’s your culinary playground.
So, whether you’re pairing this dish with grilled meats, roasted veggies, or a hearty stew, Lebanese rice stands ready to steal the show. It’s not merely a side dish; it’s a flavor-packed companion to your main course. Now, grab your pan, let’s get those noodles sautéing, and embark on a culinary adventure with Lebanese rice!

Lebanese Rice
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 1/2 cup Vermicelle Noodles
- 1 cup Jasmine Rice
- 2 cups Water
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
- Add oil to medium sized sauce pan and turn to medium heat.
- Add vermicelle noodles and fry until a dark golden brown color.
- Add water, salt and rice and give it a good mix and cover.
- Turn heat down to right between medium and low.
- Simmer and cook for an additional 20+ minutes until rice is soft. I check on my rice every 10 minutes and give it a good stir to make sure nothing starts sticking to the bottom. If this happens, add a little more water and use a spatula to scrape the bottom of the pan.
- Once rice is tender you want to remove from heat! Best served topped with a sprinkle more salt. Perfect side dish to any meal. Favorites to pair this rice with are Kafta and Yogurt Chicken.
